LDC Perspectives on realizing the Stockholm Outcomes

MULTI-STAKEHOLDER ACTION HUB
Friday 3 June
12:15 - 13:15 CEST
Stockholmsmässan, Stage 1

Organizers: Global Green Growth Institute, UNEP LDC Group

About:

The UNFCCC LDC Chair, Madeleine Diouf Sarr, in conversation with former LDC Chair Gebru Jember Endalew and ICCCAD Director Saleemul Huq, will explore LDC priorities and actions towards achieving a healthy planet for the prosperity for all. Departing from the UNFCCC LDC Group’s work and priorities, how can more integrated actions lead to accelerated outcomes?

The UNFCCC LDC Group is made up of the 46 poorest countries in the world, and while LDCs are least to blame for the climate crisis they are disproportionally impacted by its impacts. As a block in the UNFCCC intergovernmental negotiations, the LDC countries contribute significantly to the ambitions of the Paris Agreement, for example the increasingly adopted 1.5-degree goal, while they also put collective LDC needs and priorities into their position. Solving the climate crisis in LDCs means solving the crisis for all.

The global community is failing on its promise to tackle the multiple planetary crisis through the existing environmental and climate agreements. Higher ambitions are required at all levels. Experience shows that more integrated actions between issues of climate, biodiversity, plastic waste, pollution and human development must be found. The current siloed approaches are not working. Join the discussion from the LDC Perspective, which accelerators are available to us to achieve the Stockholm+50 Outcomes.
