Event outcomes (Key transformative actions):

  • Countries must step up with nationally driven actions to address the Breakthrough Goal, ensuring a rapid transition to nature positive, net zero food systems.  This will require actions on both ensuring sustainable agriculture production as well as demand side measures.
  • All countries signed up to the Breakthrough Agenda to endorse the Agriculture Breakthrough Goal in advance of the launch of the State of the Sectoral Transition Report and its presentation in Sharm El Sheikh. UK to partner with Egypt to encourage country endorsements.
  • Investors to target new agriculture and food solutions that deliver for people and nature; industry need to transform business models to deliver clean technology; research institutions need to collaborate to advance the science recognizing the importance of focusing on scaling mechanisms such as the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project is doing; governments must enact legislation to deliver sustainable climate resilient food systems and collaborate effectively globally and locally; and national and international research funding bodies to prioritize funding research that provides end-to-end solutions that support meeting the SDGs related to food
