Leadership Dialogues

The Leadership Dialogues are expected to contribute to the outcome of Stockholm+50 by yielding clear and concrete recommendations and messages for action at all levels, mobilizing the global community behind strengthened cooperation and accelerated innovative action.

The three themes of the Leadership Dialogues are (from the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 75/326):

Each Leadership Dialogue will be presided over by two Co-Chairs, one from a developing country and one from a developed country, to be appointed by the two Presidents of the international meeting.

The Leadership Dialogues aim to be collaborative and multi-stakeholder in nature. All relevant stakeholders, including women, youth, older persons, persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples and local communities are invited to contribute to the discussions to build momentum for a healthy planet for the prosperity of all.

Informal Working Groups for the Leadership Dialogues

The Secretary-General of the Stockholm+50 international meeting is requested to prepare background papers for each of the Leadership Dialogues by end of March 2022 before its Preparatory Meeting.

To ensure that strong messages and concrete recommendations will be presented in the Leadership Dialogues, Informal Working Groups are being established for each of the three themes to guide the work leading up to the international meeting. This process aims to reinforce the bottom-up co-creation processes for the leadership dialogues.

The objectives of the Informal Working Groups are to:

  • Provide input to the draft background papers for each Dialogue;

  • Mobilize engagement and share experiences and initiatives on the theme of the Dialogue; and

  • Identify actions, recommendations and deliverables for governments and stakeholders that can be presented in the Dialogues at Stockholm+50.
