Five online Regional Multi-stakeholder Consultations ahead of Stockholm+50

In 1972, countries from around the world gathered in Stockholm for the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment around the theme, Only One Earth. Five decades later, the Swedish capital will welcome the world again on 2 – 3 June 2022 for the Stockholm+50 international conference, co-hosted by Sweden and Kenya.

In preparation for Stockholm+50, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), with the support of GO4SDGs, will host a total of five online regional multi-stakeholder consultations to discuss region-specific topics, identify best practices to scale up, and bring concreate solutions to accelerate action on the environment. The first consultations will focus on Asia and the Pacific.

Members of the media are welcome to join the regional consultations or to watch the livestream.

Stockholm+50 is an open forum where interested parties are invited to share their experiences and initiatives to accelerate action for a healthy planet for the prosperity of all, with emphasis on implementation, interconnectivity and intergeneration. Participants are invited to share their views towards a healthy planet, focusing on restoring our relationship with nature, sustainable and inclusive recovery and accelerating implementation. All stakeholders and participants are invited to bring to the table their commitments and pledges for action and implementation.

The International Meeting “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity” is a critical milestone towards renewed multilateralism and strengthened global solidarity. It is a time for bold action and engagement by acknowledging and highlighting the need for international unity, reciprocity, and diversity. This is a time for all actors to find their unique place in a global system, in collaboration with others, to embrace new ideas and commit to a shared responsibility for a better future on a healthy planet with prosperity for all.

All relevant stakeholders – including organizations and bodies of the United Nations system, intergovernmental organizations, international financial institutions, and other interested international bodies and nongovernmental organizations (i.e., organizations with “an interest in the field of the environment, civil society organizations, indigenous peoples’ organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the youth, the private sector and philanthropic organizations”) are invited to contribute to the discussions of the international meeting and their preparation.
