The spirit of multilateral cooperation that led to the 1972 Stockholm Declaration is needed now more than ever

On 2-3 June 2022, we will mark 50 years since the world gathered in Stockholm for the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. The landmark gathering set in motion a series multilateral processes that would come to give the world now familiar agreements and institutions of profound global significance: the Kyoto Protocol, the Montreal Protocol, the Rio Earth Summit, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Paris Agreement, and much more.

But Stockholm+50 is not only about commemorating the achievements of the past five decades—it is a time for reflection and for galvanizing urgent action. The spirit of multilateral cooperation that led to the 1972 Stockholm Declaration is needed now more than ever.

The Stockholm+50 programme, including the meeting's main sessions, side events and Multi-stakeholder Action Hub is now available.
